Interior design process — see how our collaboration unfolds step by step

What does the interior design process look like at Estilo Design?

I structure my interior design process into six clear stages. We begin with a site survey, move through the functional layout and photorealistic visualizations (I prepare 4-6 views for every room), and conclude with comprehensive technical documentation, including a shopping list and cost estimates.

I personally manage every project from start to finish. You maintain full control over the aesthetics and budget, while I guide you from the initial concept to the final construction specifications. No chaos and no “surprises” on-site. Below, you will find a description of each stage of our collaboration. I have organized them to ensure the process remains clear and stress-free.

Step 1.
Interview and understanding your needs and expectations

At the start, it’s essential to fully understand your needs and expectations for the space. We discuss your daily habits, preferences, favorite colors, materials, style — and, of course, your dreams for the perfect interior.
We also examine the space itself, analyzing its potential, possibilities, and limitations.
Together, we establish the budget and timeline to ensure the entire process runs smoothly and aligns with your vision.

Step 2.
Interior Measurements

During the interior survey, precise measurements are taken, along with photographic documentation to support the next stages of the design process. If the project is carried out remotely, the materials provided by the client become the foundation for the work. In the case of properties still under construction, the process is based on documentation received from the developer.

Stage 3.
Functional interior layout

Based on our initial discussions, I prepare several functional layout proposals — showing the suggested arrangement of walls, zones, furniture, built-ins, and key features. The focus is on creating a space that supports your daily rhythm, meets the needs of all household members, and reflects your personal preferences. This is a crucial stage in the interior design process, as it sets the foundation for all further steps.

As part of this stage, you will receive:

– 3 to 5 functional layout concepts (2D floor plans)

Stage 4.
Conceptual design and photorealistic visualizations

After the final layout is approved, we move on to the 3D design stage. This results in visualizations featuring specific materials, lighting, and furnishings – all based on real products available in stores, accurately represented in the design just as they appear in reality. You’ll also receive a list of selected items with direct links to shops. The visualizations help you fully feel the atmosphere of your future interior.

I present one version of the design, then introduce any adjustments based on your feedback. At this stage, you receive:

  • 3D visualizations of the designed interiors (4–6 views per room)
  • A list of selected furnishings with links to stores

Stage 5.
Executive design and full technical documentation

At this stage, detailed technical drawings are prepared for all contractors based on the final project approved by you. You will also receive a comprehensive list of materials, furniture, and other elements in Excel format (including lighting, fixtures, ceramics, finishing materials, furniture, accessories, etc.).

Once the detailed design is completed, the documentation can be shared with our trusted finishing teams and carpenters for cost estimation. Of course, there is no obligation to use our teams – the choice of services is entirely yours.

The detailed design includes:

  • Drawings showing changes to partition walls and drywall constructions
  • Drawings of suspended ceilings
  • Drawings of plumbing and central heating installations
  • Drawings indicating the placement of electrical points – sockets and switches
  • Drawings indicating the placement of lighting points
  • Floor plans with layout schemes for tiles, parquet, and other floor coverings
  • Wall elevations showing wall coverings and built-in furniture
  • Designs for custom furniture and carpentry fittings
  • Information about colors for walls, ceilings, varnishes, and additional elements (e.g., wallpapers, baseboards)
  • A detailed list of products to purchase
  • Preliminary cost estimates from contractors

If any questions arise during the execution phase—whether when ordering materials or during the construction work—I remain available to you by phone and email. We can end our cooperation after handing over the documentation and leave the further steps in your hands. However, if you prefer to offload some or all of the responsibilities related to project implementation, there is an option to extend our cooperation with a supervision service.

Stage 6.
Supervision during implementation

AUTHOR’S SUPERVISION

During project implementation, I ensure that all renovation works are carried out according to the agreed design. I regularly visit the site to monitor progress. If contractors have any doubts or questions, I stay in constant contact, providing necessary clarifications and, when needed, suggesting alternative solutions. You can be confident that every decision aligns with the design and all technical aspects are carefully managed. This way, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing an expert oversees the implementation. Service scope:

  • Contacts for trusted finishing teams and carpenters
  • Site visits and supervision to ensure renovation works comply with the design documentation
  • Consultations with all contractors regarding any project-related questions or the introduction of alternative solutions if necessary

INVESTOR SUPERVISION

In the “Turnkey” package, in addition to author’s supervision, I also take over the coordination of finishing works, scheduling, and all involved contractors. I oversee orders, deliveries, and the installation of equipment, and at the end, I accept the completed works. The entire process — from the initial concepts to the finished interior — I manage comprehensively, taking all tasks and coordination upon myself. Service scope:

  • Contacts for trusted finishing teams and carpenters
  • Site visits and supervision to ensure renovation works comply with the design documentation
  • Consultations with all contractors regarding any project-related questions or introducing alternative solutions if necessary
  • Coordination of the renovation and finishing works schedule and subcontractors
  • Ordering materials and equipment, and overseeing their delivery and installation
  • Acceptance of finishing works

FAQ

Answers to questions about the design process

Will the design be tailored to my implementation budget?

Yes. Right from the initial consultation, we strictly define your financial framework. Thanks to my experience, I select materials and solutions that ensure the visualization is feasible, rather than becoming just a “pretty picture” completely detached from the actual cost estimate.

Who actually prepares my interior design?

I manage the entire process personally – from the initial analysis to the technical documentation. I do not delegate tasks to assistants, which guarantees artistic and technical consistency at every stage.

Are revisions possible during the design process?

Yes, I divide the process into specific stages. Each one concludes with your approval – this gives you full control over the final visual result and the budget before we move forward.

Will I have to find the renovation crew and subcontractors on my own?

It is not necessary. I have a database of proven contractors and carpenters with whom I have collaborated for years. You can take advantage of my recommendations, which significantly reduces the risk of construction errors and delays.

What if I want to change something from the design during construction?

When overseeing the implementation, I help verify any sudden ideas from both a technical and aesthetic perspective. I check whether a change might negatively impact functionality or subsequent stages of work. My role is to safeguard the consistency of the final result, ensuring that your vision does not get lost during the construction process.

Will I receive a list of specific products to purchase?

Yes, you will receive a complete material breakdown from me with specific quantities and a shopping list. This effectively eliminates the stress associated with searching for the right color codes or specific fixture models on your own.
